Patio Theatre

This is how its done when a community works together. This is a recent picture of the inside of the Patio Theater. A theater that had closed and was unsure if it would ever be open again.

The 1927 Patio Theatre was one of just a few classic moderately-sized single-screen neighborhood movie houses in Chicago not to have been carved up into multiple screens.

The Patio Theatre is located at the corner of Irving Park Road and Austin Avenue in Chicago's Portage Park neighborhood.

The Patio's auditorium had a great Atmospheric style effect with twinkling "stars" and drifting "clouds" in a night "sky". The theater has remained unused since it closed in 2001. Work began in the summer of 2010, to restore, for a planned re-opening in early-2011.

Here are some more pictures...

The Patio Theater website www.patiotheater.net has pretty much a log of events that has been going on throughout the summer. Check out the "getting the community involved" link for more information.
